There are always those that must give of themselves to make the universe safe for the rest of us. Those that must walk outside the law. For centuries these unknown, non-existent people have fought their private war to see that the bulk of humanity may continue their day to day lives in peace. There are those who are willing to give up everything, including their exitstence. You may see them but not realize they are there. You may meet them but never understand their name or remember their face. It is those nameless, faceless people that are the crew of the Avenger. A ship, that like its crew, was never built, never commissioned and never existed.

The crew of the Avenger have all been hand picked because they each have some talent that will make them beneficial to the crew. Each of them were approached not only because of this talent and because they have no family that would suffer unbearably by their loss, but also because they have shown themselves to be exceptional officers. Upon acceptance of this unending mission, each person was cloned. Their clone went on to live their life while the real person was put through training. After 1 year of specialized training, during which they were re-evaluated several times on their suitability for this mission, they swore an oath and were given their assignment. They were given an alias which they are known by when off the ship. They have also been surgically altered so they do not look the same. At this point, their clone was killed in some bazaar accident thus solidifying their lifelong commitment to their mission.
