Medical - Although all departments are important, medical ranks at the top. Medical personnel are responsible for both the physical and mental health of the entire crew. Nobody can overrule the Chief Medical Officer on health issues. Even the Captain must submit to the orders of the CMO where health is concerned. The Maelstrom's medical staff is highly trained and ready to respond to any crises on short notice. Meet our Medical Staff.

Engineering - The engineers run a close second in importance on the Maelstrom. The Engineers are responsible for everything mechanical on the ship as well as the warp engines and shields. Food, transporters, turbolifts, lights, gravity and several other day to day services are monitored and repaired by the engineers. Their work is not always seen as it is done behind the scenes. Tiny miracles are worked several times a day all over the ship by this department's personnel. Meet our Miracle workers.

Security - If not the most important department in the day to day running of the ship they are the department we should consider most important on an away team mission or in a non-medical crises. These men and women put their lives on the line daily to keep the crew of the Maelstrom out of harms way. Ready to sacrifice their own lives for those of their shipmates. This department is responsible for knowing the weapons systems, combat manuevers and self defense measures that will bring everyone home. Meet our Police Force.

Science - Although not always a visible department the science officers are responsible for collecting data on nebula, stars and planets as we travel through space. Science officers are called upon when new species are met, new languages are encountered and new minerals or gases are discovered. Short range sensors are manned by the science officers and with their help we are able to work with new species to come to cultural understanding. Meet our Science department.

Bridge - Although not actually a department, there are crew members that work almost strictly on the bridge. The Captain and Executive officer are responsible for the ship and the crew. The Helm/Operations officer is responsible for piloting the ship and organizing the operations of the ship so that they do not conflict and jeopardize the mission. The Tactical officer is responsible for coordinating defense efforts, boarding parties or away team security details. Meet the bridge crew.
